Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for
admission into the following proficiency Diploma programmes.
Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Education
The objectives of the Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood
Education are to:
(i) provide manpower and also disseminate
knowledge in the proper running and management of early
childhood centres.
(ii) broaden the conceptual framework,
perspectives and knowledge base of prospective and serving
teachers and other caretakers.
(iii) provide an in-depth, articulated and
integrated childhood education programme, which incorporates
some of the main objectives of the Universal Basic Education
(UBE).
(iv) enable teachers in pre-primary institutions
have a deeper and more fundamental understanding of the
rationale and ideological contexts that are relevant in
educating young children
(v) understand the different stages of
development and be able to apply the theories and principles of
child development for the healthy upbringing and education of
the children.
Target Group
The programme is targeted at proprietors, teachers, local
education officers, supervisors, inspectors and other
stakeholders in Early Childhood Education including parents and
Non Governmental Organizations.
Duration of the Programme
The programme is designed to last for 18 calendar months
consisting of 15 months of course work and 3 months of both
practical attachment (internship) in approved relevant early
childhood/nursery institutions and for the project work.
Advanced Diploma in School Supervision and Inspection
The objectives of the Advanced Diploma in School
Supervision and Inspection are to:
(i) Create awareness of the need for professional
educators and major stakeholders in basic education of modern
approaches of quality assurance, quality control and quality
management;
(ii) Up-date the knowledge base and skills of the
students in a diversity of concepts relevant to supervision and
inspection of schools; and
(iii) Provide a comprehensive framework for the
understanding and interpretation of policies, theories,
principles and models necessary for the effective management of
quality and standards in education through supervision and
inspection of schools.
Duration of the Programme:
The programme shall last for at least 18 calendar months
consisting of 15 months of intensive course work and three
months of internship in the field (schools) and for independent
and supervised project work.
Advanced Diploma in Guidance and Counselling
The Advanced Diploma program in Guidance and Counselling is
specifically designed to identify, train and equip candidates
with relevant and analytic knowledge, practical and pastoral
skills that will prepare pre-and in-service teachers in private
and public schools to manage students problem and advice them on
their learning, social, vocational and related problems of
adjustment. The course has been designed to train teachers who
will be equipped with skills and competencies that will enable
them function effectively as professional guidance workers/counsellors/teacher
counsellors in schools.
The closing date for the submission of completed application
forms is normally end of August each year. The closing date for
the submission of application forms for the 2005/2006 session is
30th August 2005.
Duration of the Programme
The programme is expected to last for at least 18 calendar
months consisting 15 months of intensive course work and three
months of supervised internship (practicum). Application forms
may be obtained from all NTI Zonal and State Offices or from the
Director, Academic Services, National Teachers' Institute
Headquarters, Kaduna.
