Admission
requirements:
Candidates having any of the underlisted
qualifications are eligible for admission.
(i) Teachers' Grade II Certificate/National
Teachers' Certificate with merit or credit 2
(B2) in three subjects including the teaching
subject the candidate intends to study (or its
equivalent).
(ii) Associateship Certificate in Education
(ACE) or its equivalent.
(iii) Teachers' Grade II Certificate with at
least (5) years of post qualification teaching
experience with or without the number of
credits/merits indicated in (1) above.
(iv) Successful completion of Pre-NCE Programme
of the Institute.
(v) The Pivotal Teachers' Certificate or its
equivalent.
(vi) Primary School teachers who are holders of
Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or
GCE "O" level with passes in 5 subjects
including English Language, three of which must
be at credit level in same sitting or four
credits at two sittings.
Additional
Entry Requirements
(i) Candidates offering Integrated Science, as
their main teaching subject must possess at
least a pass in Mathematics.
(ii) Candidates offering Mathematics as their
main teaching subject must possess at least a
credit in the subject at the TC.II.NTI or GCE
0'Level.
(iii) Candidates offering English as a main
teaching subject must possess 'O' Level credit
in English Language or Literature in English or
credit in English Language in the Teachers'
Grade II Certificate
(TC II) or a pass in English Language and a
credit in Literature in English.
(iv) Candidates intending to offer PHE must pass
the Institute's Fitness Test.
(v) All candidates must be serving teachers.
Since this is an in-service (and NOT a
Pre-service) programme that is meant to upgrade
teachers already serving in primary and junior
secondary schools
Courses Offered and Structure
The courses are as follows for candidates
offering PES as a major:
(i) Primary Education Studies
(ii) Education
(iii) One of the following subjects:
1. CRS
2. CCA
3. English
4. ITS
5. IRS
6. Maths
7. SOS
(iv) Practical Teaching
(v) General Studies Education (GSE) of which Use
of English and Communication Skills is a major
component.
For candidates not
offering PES as a major, the following course
combinations are available:
(1) English/Islamic Religious Studies
(2) English/Christian Religious Studies
(3) CCA/English
(4) English/Social Studies
(5) ITS/Maths
(6) Social Studies/IRS
(7) Social Studies/CRS
(8) PHE (Double Major)
(9) English (Double major)
(10) ITS (Double Major)
(11) SOS (Double Major)
NOTE BELOW:
The above combinations are by no means
exhaustive. Any combination of two subjects or a
double major approved from time to time by the
Academic Awards Committee of the Institute may
be introduced.
Methods of Application
Application forms are obtainable all the year round at the NTI
State Offices in all the State Capitals. The application form
and the students' handbook are obtainable on payment of a non
refundable fee (as specified in the advertisement) in cash or
Bank Draft made payable to the Coordinator of the NTI State
Office in the applicant's State Capital.
